  The Cyclades Islands

SANTORINI.
The only way to see Santorini for the first time is an approach from the sea. Vividly colored cliffs - searched black, red and yellow by volcanic fires over 2,000 years ago when a slopes arising betwwen the white buildings of the harbor village and the even more dazzling white town or Thera, perced atop the sheer precipes. It's a long climb ( by donkey or by funicular) to the top,up numerous dizzying hairpin turns, but it's worth the trip. The view from the top is equally dizzying: in one direction stare out over Santorini Bay, which is actually the water filled crater of the old volcano. Half of the island lies submerged deep below those impenetrable sapphire waters. The view in the other direction looks over lava strewn fields which nourish some of the richest vineyards in Greece-Santorini is famed for its wine. Airport.

TINOS. Each year on august 15th, pilgrims make their way to the capital and the Church of the Holy Virgin, which contains an icon said to have miraculous healing powers. The church was built in 1833 and the whole structure, with its arches and cells, is made of marble provided by the island's quarries. Tinos is green and fertile, with many small valleys profuse with fruit and olive trees and vineyards. Tiny villages with their spotlessly clean white houses are matched by the island's countless clean white bays. Nearest airport: Mykonos. Yacht provisioning facilities.
