Approach the eastern coast of Turkey are the Islands of Eastern Sporades, characterized by
beautiful country-side irregular coastlines and many wonderful coves and beaches. Major
islands in the group are Lemnos. Lesbos, Chios, Ikaria and the jewel Samos.
SAMOS. Silvergreen olive trees, terraced vineyards, and golden beaches
create a landscape of unforgettable beauty on Samos. In Greek mythology, Samos was the
birthplace of the queen of the gods, Hera. It has also produced the philosophers
Pythagoras ans Epicurus. The town of Samos is a lovely combination of elegant buildings,
quaint colorful streets and local art. But the beaches that dot the island's perimeter are
not to be missed. International Airport (Charters). Yacht provisioning facilities.
CHIOS. The first glimpse the sailor has of the island is of two
mountaintops, Profitis Elias and Oros. As you near and explore, you'll discover deep green
valleys, trees descending straight to the sea, and villages hidden amoung the gum-
producing mastich trees. From the port you can see a castle, within whose walls is housed
the old town, houses with latticed windows and balconies, Byzantine baths and the church
of St. George. Several museums are worth a visit, the Archeological Museum and the Museum
of Modern Greek Sculpture. North of Chios lies the village of Vrontados with the famous
stone "Daskalopetra" (teacher's stone), where legend has it Homer lectured.

LESBOS. Also known as Mytilini (the capital city). Also known as Mytillini ( the
capital city). Lesbos is the third largest Greek Island, and one historically blessed. The
level of the arts and of intellectual life developed froom early times. It was the home of
the poetess Sappho, the guitarist Arion, and the musician Terpandros. Today, the tradition
continues as the island produces celebrated artists, including the popular painter
Theophilos.

As you sail into port the first object to capture your attention, if you are a keen

the village below. The museum contains remarkable archeological finds such as the Lion
of Gera and a Statue of a Woman from the Classical period. Icredible beaches
